On average, golf grips should be replaced every 30 to 40 rounds regardless of weather conditions or time elapsed between rounds. However, if a grip begins to show signs of noticeable wear and tear, then they should be replaced immediately. These symptoms include:
- Smooth or hardened surfaces
- Cracks or peeling
- Shiny patches
- Wear spots or indentations (especially where the thumbs make contact with the club)
- Faded or bare spots on the grips that have paint, patterns, or logos
- Loss of tack
