Selecting the Right Golf Grip

There are five essential factors to finding the perfect golf grip to meet your needs.

Size

Size does matter when selecting a golf grip because using an improperly fitted golf grip can cost you an average of 3 to 4 strokes every round. We can further customize your golf grip by adding additional layers of tape during installation.

Material

Most golf grips are made of rubber or synthetic rubber materials, which are extremely durable and come in a variety of styles, patterns, and colors. Some new synthetic materials offer the benefits of long-lasting tackiness and superior vibration dampening.

Firmness

Firmer grips are favored by golf professionals because they promote a light-pressure grip while providing greater stability and superior torsion control that is well suited for players with high swing speeds. Softer grips are ideal for players with slower swing speeds or minimized hand strength, but players using these tend to apply more hand pressure to create a more secure grip.

Texture

Golf grips come in a wide range of surface textures. Depending on the design and pattern on the surface of a golf grip, it will create either a smooth or a more coarse feel. We recommend that when selecting a golf grip you should choose a texture that feels comfortable and secure based on your style of play. For example, if you don’t wear a glove, then you may prefer a grip with less pattern and a smoother feel.

Weather

Weather conditions can vary greatly worldwide, which is why we recommend golfers playing in moist and humid climates should lean towards golf grips with cord fabric to provide more traction and support. However, cord grips can be too harsh for many golfers, so alternatively, you can use a grip with a heavy pattern and surface texture to provide the traction required to avoid the club accidentally slipping out of your hands. In addition, if playing in wet conditions, you should avoid golf grips made of plastic or other polymers.

Club Regripping FAQs

Comfort, consistency, and distance can all be improved with new golf grips.

Why should you regrip your golf clubs?2021-09-14T22:54:51+00:00

There are three main reasons why you should regrip your golf clubs:

  1. To replace stock “standard” sized grips with ones that better fit your hand size.
  2. You can select a material, texture, pattern, and color that is tailored to your playing style and climate (wet or dry).
  3. To replace old grips that have become worn out and contribute to you applying excessive tension and pressure when holding the club.
When should you regrip your golf clubs?2021-09-14T22:54:36+00:00

On average, golf grips should be replaced every 30 to 40 rounds regardless of weather conditions or time elapsed between rounds. However, if a grip begins to show signs of noticeable wear and tear, then they should be replaced immediately. These symptoms include:

  • Smooth or hardened surfaces
  • Cracks or peeling
  • Shiny patches
  • Wear spots or indentations (especially where the thumbs make contact with the club)
  • Faded or bare spots on the grips that have paint, patterns, or logos
  • Loss of tack
